The Cape Town Animation Festival returns for its 8th year from 8 – 10 March.
As the only dedicated African Animation festival, with a history of bringing world-class content to attendees, the 2019 edition boasts a star-studded line up of international and local industry experts. Over 3 days, attendees can join insightful workshops and masterclasses on a wide range of topics, including some uniquely African content.
Academy Award winning Producer, Aron Warner from Sony Picture Animation will host a discussion on the future of animation and why Africa is perfectly positioned to deliver. Another exciting addition to the speaker line-up is Academy Award nominated producer Peter Ramsey who will share stories from the production of Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. The film won a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film in January 2019.
Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse is an incredible mix of both 2D and 3D animation, using Adobe Photoshop for the original drawings and then knitting them together in Adobe After Effects. The team used custom brushes in Photoshop to enable cohesive creation across the hundreds of artists working on the film.
The festival will also include film screenings and technology showcases covering all areas of content creation. Adobe’s Digital media Consultant – Carla Ralph will reveal one of Adobe’s latest innovations – Adobe Premiere Rush. The session ‘Video Editing for the YouTube Generation – Accelerating Content Velocity is a not-to-be missed look into this all in one video app.
